# DAWA has closed — here is the replacement

DAWA closed on **1 October 2026 at 10:00**. Its address surfaces have Grundfast equivalents that are live in production today — mostly on the same paths, with the same address identifiers, one new base URL and a bearer key.

Migration

## The migration, in two lines

Change where the request goes and add a header. Then unwrap the response one level where you read it.

Beyond the swap

## What you gain by moving

A like-for-like swap is the floor, not the ceiling. DAWA stopped at the address.

- **The property behind the address.** The same lookup can carry BBR buildings and units, cadastral parcels and ejerlav, joined on the BFE number.
- **Point-in-time reads.** `?asOf=<date>` and `/historik` return the address or property as it stood then (Scale plan and up).
- **Sets instead of loops.** `:batch` resolves many in one call, async export jobs deliver CSV, NDJSON or GeoJSON, and signed webhooks push changes instead of you polling.

## Where the date comes from

The closing date moved twice before it held, and both older dates are still circulating. Here is what the 1 October date rests on.

FAQ

## Questions about the DAWA shutdown

### When did DAWA close?

DAWA (Danmarks Adressers Web API) closed on 1 October 2026 at 10:00 Danish time. The date had moved twice — it was announced for 1 July 2026, then 17 August 2026 — so older articles and AI answers still quote the earlier dates. Klimadatastyrelsen confirmed the 1 October date on 12 June 2026.

### What breaks?

Anything calling DAWA on dawa.aws.dk or api.dataforsyningen.dk no longer gets addresses: every path now answers 410 Gone, so code that expects a list or an address object fails where it reads the response. That includes address autocomplete in checkout forms, address washing, postal-code lookups and reverse geocoding.

### How much of my integration has to change?

The transport is two lines: point requests at https://api.grundfast.dk/v1 and send an Authorization: Bearer `gf_live_`… header. Most DAWA paths and query parameters exist unchanged under /v1. Responses are Grundfast’s own: lists are wrapped one level down (results, resultater, postnumre) and coordinates are always a named WGS84 object, so each place that reads a response needs a line or two.

### Do address UUIDs stay the same?

Yes. Both DAWA and Grundfast serve identifiers from DAR, the national address register, so stored address UUIDs keep resolving. You do not have to re-key your database.

### Is it live now?

Yes. Every endpoint in the table is live in production and requires a key; a call without one answers 401. Keep the key on your server — DAWA was keyless, but a key in the browser can be read by any visitor.
